I would like the ability to lock the date the same as you can do in line50 so that when i've completed the management accounts for a certain month I can lock the date meaning that no transactions can be posted prior to that date.

Great Idea! You can currently do this by going to Settings > Business Settings > Accounting Dates and VAT and selecting a 'Year End Lockdown' date. This date will prevent transactions from being entered before this date, and doesn't have to be your year end, you can also use it for month end for this purpose. Hope this helps.
